NCT U welcomes the winter by bringing fans a new song that will surely warm their hearts. If you’re looking for something to keep you company during this chilly holiday then look no more because the group is right by your side with “Coming Home.”
NCT U is the first subunit under boy group NCT formed by SM Entertainment, debuting in 2016 with the song “The 7th Sense,” and “Without You.” This group’s overall concept is not all that difficult to understand: Although consisting of nine current members, the number of performers varies depending on the song. In this instance, “Coming Home” features four of NCT U’s vocal line Taeil, Doyoung, Jaehyun, and the group’s maknae, Haechan coming together to sing a beautiful song about longing to go back home after being apart for a while.
“Coming Home” opens with an orchestra of piano notes, the slow plucking of guitar strings, and soft thumping of drums. Different from their usual fast-paced, high energy songs, the quartet dominated this slow, passionate melody. In a different take on your typical Christmas song, the emotions behind knowing how it feels to regret not having said goodbye when having the chance to do so is felt simply by just listening to their voices. With powerful vocals come heartfelt lyrics that further express the feeling of going through this hardship; however, Taeil’s belts through the chorus the knowledge that moments like these don’t last forever:
By the time the trip ends,
I’m gonna realize it
Like that time, while holding you fully in my heart
I’m coming home
To match a touching song is an equally heartfelt video. Against a white backdrop and snow-covered floor, all the members are dressed up in long warm coats and neutral colors. The minimal background along with the slow falling of snowflakes gives off an intimate feeling as if we’re enduring the same emotions each of the members are going through. The setting transitions to a train ride and through the window we see Taeil, Doyoung, Jaehyun and Haechan are sitting down enjoying a table filled with all kinds of sweets and snacks.
While the group has fun teasing each other as the train makes its way through the night, it’s a scene that will surely have you wanting to see more of how the group gets along. You can find more of this in the group’s personal YouTube channel, NCT Daily! Made up of behind-the-scenes videos, personal vlogs, dance practice and all kinds of challenges, you’ll be laughing along with all of NCT no matter which video you decide to watch first.
Goodbyes aren’t always forever, and “Coming Home” makes sure you know that. Will you let NCT U bring you comfort this chilly winter? Let us know in the comments below!
