The frozen food aisle is the best friend of those us who can’t cook, don’t have the time to cook, or simply can’t be eating out at their favorite restaurant every week. Thankfully, long gone are the days where we had to sacrifice taste for the convenient and affordable frozen food, especially if we’re talking about Korean cuisine. Today, we’re sharing some favorite finds from the frozen aisle. Just beware, you may get hungry after reading this!
- Mandu (Dumplings)
If you’ve never tried Korean-style dumplings (mandu), this frozen aisle staple is a good place to start. You can steam or pan-fry them easily, and within minutes you’ll be enjoying delicious mandu that you can have as a snack, side dish, or as an addition to ramen or soup. There are many fillings available, such as seafood, pork, beef and vegetable, and even kimchi!
- Tteokbokki (Spicy Rice Cake)
Tteokbokki is a guilty pleasure but it’s actually hard to find if you don’t have any Korean restaurants near you. Thankfully, with an Asian market near you, it’s really easy to enjoy tteokbokki at home. All you have to do is cook the rice cakes, add the sauces provided, and in no time, you’ll be enjoying delicious tteokbokki. You may not want to share any after trying it, it’s that good!
- Gimmari (Fried Seaweed Rolls)
You have not lived until you’ve tried gimmari! The combination of glass noodles stuffed on a deep-fried seaweed roll is perfect. All you have to do is pan-fry these babies and enjoy them with some soy sauce. You can also add them to tteokbokki for a fulfilling meal. Just pick a bag on your next trip to an Asian grocery store and thank us later!
- Bungeoppang (Fish-Shaped Bread)
If you’re a fan of fish bread that ain’t got fish inside, this one is for you! You can enjoy these fish-shaped pastries with sweet red bean paste filling without having to travel to the streets of Seoul by picking a bag of frozen bungeoppang. They can be heated in the microwave or in a pan (we can recommend the latter but you do you). There are only five per bag, but do not fret, they’re big enough to share with friends!
Those are all of our frozen aisle recommendations for now. Let us know if you’ll be picking any, if not all, of these during your next shopping trip!
