We asked each of the Fever Guys interns to pick their favourite Korean dishes! Check them out below:
Stephanie and Kaitlin: Bibimbap (비빔밥) is probably one of the most well-known Korean dishes worldwide! This dish can be made several ways, but generally consists of marinated and diced up meat with a variety of vegetables that can either be cooked, blanched, or served fresh. Traditionally, all this is served in a hot stone bowl so the rice on the outside will become crispy. Bibimbap is meant to look like a beautiful kaleidoscope of colours with each ingredient in its own section, and can be topped with a raw or cooked egg. Once served, everything will be mixed together to fully enjoy the taste.
Nicole: Jjajangmyeon (자장면) is a Chinese/Korean noodle dish that consists of thick black bean sauce over, diced pork and vegetables. Very popular with Koreans, most will remember it from their childhood as it was served on special celebration days, such as graduation.
Catherine: Galbi (갈비) is a popular type of grilled short beef rib. Served in most Korean BBQ restaurants, it is usually marinated first in a sweet soy garlic sauce and will almost always be served with a side of rice and kimchi. Other side dishes may also be presented or used.
Tessa: Tteokguk (떡국) is a soup traditionally eaten during the Korean New Year to give you and a bright and wonderful year to come. It is made with a light broth and thinly sliced rice cakes.
Kalina: Kimchi (김치) is traditionally served as a side dish, but can also be the main ingredient in other dishes such as Kimchi stew, Kimchi pancakes, Kimchi fries, and many other dishes. There are over 200 types of Kimchi but the most well-known is fermented cabbage, carrots, onion and radish covered in a red pepper paste with garlic, ginger, and other seasonings that can vary by region.

Maegs – Spicy Korean fried chicken is probably one of the most popular dishes in Korea at this time. Because many are on the lookout for the best fried chicken available, it’s difficult to go around a corner without finding a fried chicken shop!
Ash: Pork belly or samgyupsal (삼겹살) is very popular at Korean BBQ joints. Thick cuts of pork belly are usually cooked over a traditional charcoal tabletop grill, and cut into bite-sized pieces partway through for a texture that’s crisp on the outside and “melt in your mouth” tender on the inside. They can be eaten with traditional sauces, such as ssamjang (쌈장); or in a makeshift sandwich of lettuce or other leafy greens, and other sides that you wish to add. This is called a ssam (쌈), and should be eaten in one bite.
Tiffany: Gyeran-mari (계란말이) is a Korean omelette that is tightly rolled and then sliced into thin strips that are easily eaten. It can be filled with a variety of finely-diced ingredients such as meat, mushrooms, green onions, seaweed and many other types of vegetables. It’s not uncommon for this dish to be found in lunch boxes around Korea.
